How to Treat American Cockroaches
American cockroaches are an outside roach, and they do not usually survive well indoors. The reason you see them inside sometimes is because they are trying to escape the weather outside. Most of the time, they will just die on their own if you do absolutely nothing inside. They can infest your home, but it is somewhat unusual. I suggest that you wait about a month before you do any treatment inside. If the problem persists, then you can simply apply Nibor-D on all surfaces inside your cabinets where you are seeing the activity. You can also apply boric acid into all the cracks and crevices, such as around pipe penetrations. It helps to apply boric acid under all the baseboards too. After that, apply any gel bait that you like in areas where you are seeing the activity. Just use small dots of the bait and place them about 12 inches apart where you are seeing the activity. Finally, place Gentrol IGR disks under appliances and in the base cabinets under the kitchen and bathroom sinks. Also, place the IGR disks in any other areas where you are seeing activity, such as the garage or basement. Replace the IGR disks after 90 days.
To prevent the problem, you need to treat the outside of your home. You can simply treat the perimeter of the building, but it is more effective if you treat the entire yard. I will give you a link to my video on how to treat the exterior of the house and a link to my video on how to treat your yard. In the videos I recommend mixing the pesticide 1 to 14, but for American cockroaches I now mix it 1 to 10 in the sprayer cup. So, put 2 ounces of Bifen XTS in the sprayer cup and add 20 ounces of water. You can also do these treatments with a 20-gallon hose-end sprayer. I will give you a link to my video on how to use a 20-gallon hose end sprayer. A 20-gallon hose-end sprayer is a little less expensive to purchase and it's faster too. Personally, I treat both the perimeter of the house and the entire yard because, not only will it stop American cockroaches, but it will also prevent almost every other kind of bug from entering your house. If you are treating your yard with a hose end sprayer, you can just go ahead and treat the exterior of your house with it as well. It is super-fast to do it that way and it will not cause any harm to you or the environment. Treating around windows can be a little messy this way, so you can use a 1-gallon pump-up tank sprayer for that. The sprayer can be easily filled by using the hose end sprayer in the stream setting. Simply shoot the finished product into the sprayer.
