How to Treat Brown Recluse Spiders

To eliminate brown recluse spiders in your home, start by reducing clutter.  These guys like to hang out in basements, attics, garages, and closets where they can find areas that are cluttered.  I recommend that you wear gloves, closed shoes, long pants, and a long sleeve shirt.

If you see a brown recluse spider, then shoot it with a can of Raid Ant and Roach Killer. This will take out the spider within seconds.

Now, go around the outside of your house and seal up any cracks and crevices where spiders can possibly get in.

Inside the house you can treat baseboards in the areas where you are seeing activity.  Also treat any cracks and crevices, like where pipes penetrate the wall.  You know, any place spiders can hide.  I recommend using Talstar P, mixed at one ounce per gallon of water.  Simply mix it in a one-gallon, pump-up garden sprayer and apply a light spray.  This product is odorless, and it has a 90-day residual.  You should wear a respirator, eye protection, and rubber gloves when applying this product.  It is safe for children and pets after it dries.

After you've treated the inside of the house, it's time to stop the spiders from entering in the first place.  To do this, simply watch my video on how to treat the exterior of your house.  In this video I show you how to use Bifen IT in a tank sprayer at the beginning of the video.  Near the end of the video, I show you how to use Bifen XTS in a hose end sprayer.  While I generally use the hose end sprayer for hard-to-reach areas, you can also use it for all other areas as well, which is pretty much what I do now.  The only problem is that the hose end sprayer can make a mess on the window glass.  To avoid this just put the hose end sprayer in the stream setting and simply fill the tank sprayer with it.  It will come out of the hose end sprayer at the correct dilution rate.  You can only fill the sprayer about halfway because you must tilt the sprayer to fill it, but that's fine.  It doesn't usually take that much product to treat just around the windows.  If you run out, just shoot some more in the sprayer.  This will allow you to get a nice, neat job around the windows, and it will save you a lot of time treating the rest of the house.  A hose end sprayer is way faster than using a tank sprayer.  This will also save you from buying two different products.  Instead of buying both Bifen IT and Bifen XTS, you can just use Bifen XTS.  You cannot use Bifen IT in a hose end sprayer.  If you wish, you can also use Talstar P to treat around the windows.  Just mix it one ounce to a gallon of water.

Please note that Talstar P and Bifen XTS use the same active ingredient, but Talstar P cannot be used in a hose end sprayer.  Bifen XTS has a strong odor that does not make it a good choice for indoor use.  The smell will go away after it dries, so it's fine for outside use.

It is also a good idea to treat your yard as well.  I also have a video on how to do this and I will give you the link.  Not only will this treatment eliminate brown recluse spiders, but it will also eliminate many other pests as well.
