How to Treat Oriental Cockroaches

Oriental cockroaches are actually an outside roach, but they will enter your house if they don't like the weather outside.  These guys are also called water bugs because they like hanging out where there is water.  So, if they decide to take up residence in your home, it's a pretty safe bet that you are going to find them in the same places where you are going to find water.  That means you are most likely to find them in kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, and that sort of thing.  They often like to hang under sinks, particularly if there's a leak.  Since they are very fond of both water and sewer sludge, it is very common to find them in drains.  Please note that they did not come from your sewer pipes.  They entered from the outside and just took up residence in your drains, because that is an environment where they like to live.

The first step in treating oriental cockroaches is to make sure that you clean your kitchen and bathrooms really well.  Make sure there are no dirty dishes in the sink, trash cans are clean, the trash is taken out every day, pet food is picked up every night, and sinks are wiped dry before you go to bed.

Next, apply Temprid FX on all surfaces under the sinks and on all the baseboards in the kitchen, bathrooms, laundry room, or other places where you see activity.  You can apply this product with a pump-up garden sprayer.  Just mix it 16 milliliters to one gallon of water.  You don’t want too much pressure in the sprayer, so just pump it a couple times.  Any sprayer is fine to use.  They are available at Lowes, Home Depot, or Amazon.

Buy a handheld duster and apply D-Fense dust into all cracks and crevices under all the sinks, especially where pipes are entering the wall of the floor.  Also apply D-Fense dust under all the baseboards in the kitchen, bathrooms, laundry room, and other places where you see activity.  Apply a gel bait everywhere you are seeing activity.  You only need to use a small dot of the bait, and you should keep the dots about 12 inches apart.  Apply the bait under the sinks, in cabinets, and any other place where you see activity.  Drains should be treated with Nibor-D foam.  Just shoot the foam into the drain until it is coming out, and let it sit overnight.

Place a Gentrol Point Source IGR disk in all areas where you are seeing activity and change them every 90 days for a year.

Now that you've treated the inside of the house, you need to prevent more of them from coming in.  Please watch my videos on how to treat the exterior of your house and how to treat your yard.
