How to Prevent Subterranean Termites
To prevent subterranean termites, the first thing you need to do is a perk test. Simply spray some water on a bare spot of ground next to the house. If the water seeps into the ground pretty quickly, then you can use termite granules as a preventive measure. However, if the water just kind of sits there, the granules will probably not work for you. If you pass the perk test, then watch my video on how to apply termite granules. Keep in mind that you must use the granules that contain imidacloprid and not beta-cyfluthrin. The big box stores no longer carry the correct product, but it is available on Amazon. I will give you a link to it.
I would also install termite monitoring stations at 3-foot intervals around the entire house and along both sides of the driveway. You can make these yourself for about $2 each. The stations are pretty cool. There is a little stick that protrudes through the top of the station just a little bit. All you need to do is walk around your house every month and look to see if any of the sticks are missing. If there is a stick missing, then you have termites where that station is located. They can be treated by using the station as a bait station. I also have a video on how to make the bait as well. You should never put bait in the monitoring station unless you have active termites.
